Case 2: Intel 80-Core microprocessor, it's a numbers
game!

This was Intel's cutting edge multi-core processor research
prototype with the highest core count (80 cores) to date! I
was commissioned to photograph the devices for their
press release with 2 very specific goals: 1. the image have
to accentuate the coolness and the eye-catching factor of
the device; 2. the image have to be authentic and clearly
shows the 80-core.

The sample was setup so all the details were clearly visible
and the whole chip was in focus. The original multi-core
wafer and wafer carrier were used to create the moody and
colorful background. After experimenting with the lightings
for a while, I finally found the setup that could both bring out
the details of the cores while creating the brilliant coloration
as shown here.

This photo was very successful and got published in Wall
Street Journal, New York Time, San Francisco Chronicle,
numerous international medias, and even helped getting
air time on The Situation Room on CNN. It was estimated
to receive at least 80 million impressions world wide.
Case 1: WaveBender, when fine art meets high tech!

I was contacted by a startup company, WaveBender Inc., to
photograph their new product. The challenge: the product
pictures have to look like fine art pieces for their web
application and marketing collaterals.

The project is very unique due to the style the client
defined. To photograph the product in a conventional way
will not convey the artistic vision of the client. Therefore, I
had to work with the product in very different ways. I used
microphotography and extremely colorful lighting to bring
out the details and textures of the product. With the color,
shape, and dreamy blur, the products transcended into
something more than just its original physical presence.

The
web site they created with those images is stunning!
Case 3: Sling Media, a red carpet experience.

Sling Media won the technical Emmy Award at CES
2006. The company had a celebration retreat for all the
contributors. To make this Emmy experience complete,
the company asked me to do a glamour photo shot for
their employees on their red carpet!

I decided to use beauty lighting instead of the traditional
portrait lighting so all the people have the glamorous glow
on their face. Just like the pictures on the magazine
cover! The challenge was to accomplish high quality
beauty photos while working with 60 guests at the same
time. After a brief test, the lighting effect  was achieved
and the lighting setup was lock down.

The participants at the party were very excited once they
saw the photos immediately after the shutter was clicked.
The immediate feedback from the monitor gave them a
huge creativity boost! They kept on coming up with
different ideas for the photos and we had a great time
working with those Emmy Award winners!
